New Burlap Hangers

Well my husband was out of town this weekend so that means I get to catch up on all my girly shows and have a craft marathon…not that I don’t craft when he is around too but this was an extended craft session. The weather in Alabama was BEAUTIFUL this weekend and is giving me spring fever BAD. Warmer weather always results in a very productive/busy weekend which is one reason I’m ready for warm weather to stay. I did some thrifting with some friends Saturday that are about to close on their first house. I was thrilled when my friend asked me to help her decorate her new house. I love these kinds of projects and was flattered that she trusts me and my style! We found some awesome things to repurpose for their house so hopefully I’ll get a chance to post about them later! I have several projects that I will be posting about over this week so I hope you love them as much as I do!

The first several projects I worked on this weekend were some burlap hangers. I know I post about these often but they’re so easy and cheap and so popular these days (at least they are in this area). For me, it makes the most sense to do several at a time.  I typically will get 2-4 started at a time while I have all the paint and supplies out. Some of them take several stages to complete so this makes the most of my crafting sessions. For some reason all of the ones I did this time took more stages than the ones I’ve posted in the past due to different layers of paint and words on them. I also had to go back and paint extra coats on a few of them because they were splotchy in places. Burlap can be difficult to paint at times because of the holes.

I’m not going to post through all the steps because I’ve done that before but I’ll show you the pictures in process and some basic steps. If you want more detailed instruction on how to make these check out my blog here. I had some people ask if I use a stencil for my burlap hangers and the answer is no. I free hand all of my burlap hangers and use a ruler or bowl if possible. If you get the sketch wrong, you can paint over it and fix it so I don’t stress too much over the free-handed drawing.

Burlap Hanger #1 – Mason Jar – Welcome Y’all

This is by far my new favorite burlap hanger. I’m from Alabama where we say “y’all” and there is nothing better than some sweet tea out of a mason jar! Plus mason jars are being used everywhere these days and I love it! I think it will be my “go to” for Spring and Summer!

Burlap Hanger #2 – Red Chevron Cross

This is my second favorite. I love the holiday hangers but I needed something for the time in between holidays and this one is perfect. It’s actually hanging out on the post right now until March Madness starts and the Kentucky hanger will be back out to rout for my husband’s team!

I used the red burlap I had and just painted the white chevron stripes on it. It saved me from painting both the red and the white stripes. Another good idea would be to get some fabric like this to use. I wanted a original colored burlap border so I glued the red and white cross on the tan and then stuffed my newspaper in between the two tan pieces.

Burlap Hanger #3 – Easter Cross

Easter is coming up and I knew I would need an Easter hanger. I don’t love this one as much as the others. I wish I would have made the cross a bit larger but that’s ok. It will do for now!

I decided to use the lighter burlap that I had for this one since the colors were pastel and light.

To me, the accent ribbons can make the burlap hanger. I went to Michael’s yesterday and got several different ribbons on clearance for $1 and bought some red raffeta to use for the red chevron cross and bought the little burlap flower to use for the mason jar hanger. I’m not great at bows but I will layer ribbon or “rig” them as best as possible and nobody ever mentions noticing it 🙂
