Free O Holy Night Chalkart

I occasionally check out some of the local thrift stores for miscellaneous treasures that I can re-purpose. I rarely come home with very many good finds, as I vented to you about here but occasionally I’ll find an item or two that is reasonably priced and something I can work with that makes it worth checking the thrift stores every once in a while. I found this frame back in August for $2. It didn’t have the glass or anything with it but I figured I would eventually find something to do with it.

This weekend I started decorating and realized I needed something large to go on our entryway table similar to the size of the window I used for my fall decor. My mind immediately starts thinking about all the wonderful Christmas ideas I have pinned on pinterest. I have been thinking about this wonderful chalkboard print by Lindsay Letters that I would love to have but I just couldn’t justify spending the money at this time.

That is when I remembered the old frame from the thrift store that has been sitting in the garage since August. I swear my husband thinks I’m a hoarder with all the random mirrors, windows and scraps of wood sitting out there waiting for the right inspiration to strike.

The frame was pretty boring at first but it actually turned out looking better than I expected after a good coat of metallic gold spray paint.

The frame ended up being the perfect size for the table but I needed to figure out what to put in it.

That’s when I decided to just design my own chalkboard printable to use with the frame. I posted about it on my blog here and it can be downloaded for your enjoyment and use here.  I cut out some cardboard pieces and taped them to the back of the print to keep it sturdy into the frame since it didn’t have a glass or back piece included.

It cost me less than $2 to print at Staples and I already had the gold spray paint at the house so it ended up costing me about $4 total and I love it!
