Another Survey For You - How often do you change your Christmas color scheme/theme?

When I was in college all my Christmas décor was bright pink, blue, green, purple, etc. It was perfect for me and my 3 roommates, very girly and very bright! I loved it and collected decorations those colors (what I could afford) for 5 years!

Once I got out of college and got my first apartment I decided I had outgrown the bright Christmas colors and wanted something different. That’s when I switched over to Red and Gold. I love the red and gold and have been collecting things those colors for 4 to 5 years now. This year I’m using the red and gold and I still love it but I’m getting to that point where I am ready for something different.

It’s tough to switch themes/colors because you almost have to buy all new stuff! The theme I would want next would require almost ALL new decorations (tree skirt, ornaments, stockings, etc.) which would get very expensive. It got my thinking, how often does everyone change out their Christmas decoration color scheme/theme? So I figure it’s time for a survey!

I used to do the different colors but now that I am married its all about mixing the old and the new and going for a more traditional route. I bought new stockings for everyone a few years back and personalized them with our names. Our family keeps growing so I just add as needed. This year I bought two more stockings for the babies on the way (ours and my stepson’s) and will get the names on them ASAP.

I love red and gold – there’s something about it being so classic. In our household, we usually just use different variations to keep it mixed up a little bit (red and gold, then red and silver, red / gold + a teensy bit of black). That way we don’t have to always buy too many new things, you’re just mixing and matching.

If you did want a complete change, maybe just try to alter the stuff you have if possible? For example you could felt over your stockings. If that’s out of the question, try and find a colour scheme that wouldn’t irritate you for a good few years; then, you could alternate back to the red and gold when you got tired and vice versa.
