Hamby Home – The Back Story
The last 3-4 months have been a WHIRLWIND!! As most of you know we sold our house and are living in a temporary place while our house is being built. What you don’t know is all of the back story and how it all played out, so here is the full story for anyone who cares! I apologize…it’s lengthy, a lot happened in the past few months!
We had actually planned to stay in our house one more year to continue paying off things and save up some money for a larger house. We were always casually looking at houses online and talking about our future home but had never actually taken the step to see any houses. We stumbled upon a foreclosure online that we fell in love with. The location was awesome and it was a very unique house, which I LOVED! It turns out that it was a model home and had been overpriced and had been on the market for 6 years when the builder let it go to the bank. We looked at other houses but nothing could compare to this foreclosure. I was fascinated by its unique qualities, its wow factor, price, and location and was able to look past the several things that were awkward or missing knowing that we could make it our own over time. It all just seemed too perfect and I just knew this was the house for us!
We quickly put our house on the market (literally within one week) because we knew that the bank would only consider accepting a contingent offer if the buyer was actively trying to sell their house. Within a week of our house being on the market we wrote up an offer for the foreclosure. We knew the bank hadn’t received any offers since having the house so we felt good about our chances. PLOT TWIST: Another family made an offer on that house the EXACT SAME MORNING…I mean what are the chances?!?!? Didn’t they know that house was meant to be ours?! 😉
We were doubtful at this point because our offer was contingent but we remained hopeful while we waited to hear from the bank for an entire WEEK! Dealing with the bank instead of a person requires way more patience than this home buyer will ever have! I just kept praying that if this was the house for us that it would all work out. We got the call that the other offer was not contingent so our offer was rejected. We were a little heartbroken but I knew that the Lord must have another plan for us. Even knowing the Lord was in control, it was still discouraging. We had our house on the market for THAT HOUSE. We had moved lots of our stuff to storage to get it ready to sell for THAT HOUSE.
We decided at that point we would keep the house on the market and continue to look for another house knowing that we wait for a great deal on our house since we were no longer in a hurry to move. We went to several other houses but were very discouraged with our options. I wanted to stay in the city limits that I grew up in because of the great school system and the houses on the market weren’t meeting our expectations and price. We found a new subdivision that was just getting started and was building homes that fit all of our needs and were the same price if not cheaper than the houses we were looking at that were previously owned. I knew as soon as I stepped into that house that we would be building in that subdivision. Everything that was included in the price was everything we wanted. The plans had everything to fit our needs and y’all….the kitchen is the most fabulous thing EVER! I guess I better learn to cook now… ;P Here are a couple pictures of the model home.
We had three people come to see our house and we had three offers made in one weekend. I am telling you, the Lord was so faithful to us. We are beyond blessed and realize the Lord was taking care of us in this housing market. We were under contract in 24 days with an offer of asking price and the buyer paying almost all the closing cost. HALELUJAH! If you have ever sold a house, you know how stressful it can be and I was so relieved to not have to worry about showing the house anymore.
We had about 6 weeks to get moved so we took loads to storage and our temporary place every night which made the move as easy and as low stress as possible. Moving has to be the worst experience EVER. I don’t know how people do it all the time. I hate not having all of my things in one place and it’s so time consuming and so much work to pack and unpack, unassembled and reassemble. Our stuff is currently all over the city. We have two storage units, our temporary home and a little even at my mom’s…THANK’S MOM!
I’ll be blogging about where we are temporarily living and giving you an update on our house progress later this week! Thanks for reading and keeping up with the Hamby Home!
