As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord – DIY Cabinet Door Sign
Many months ago I was given about 10 old cabinet doors to use for some re-purposing. I had already painted them but never know what I wanted to do with them. You may remember me doing some re-purposing with those cabinet doors before. Things are finally settling down after closing our house and moving into a temporary place while our house is being built so I figured it’s time to start crafting again!
I grabbed one of the cabinet doors that I had already painted and used a brush texture on top of it and decided to make a sign. I had grabbed this Hazel & Ruby stencil at Michael’s one day when I had a good coupon and knew this was the perfect time to try them out! I love the font of these stencils and I love that they are reusable! I haven’t gotten paint on them yet so we’ll see how well they hold up when that happens!
I’ve always loved the bible verse Joshua 24:15 As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. It’s a daily reminder for everyone in the household and I love that it’s displayed for anyone else that comes in the home.
For this project I just laid out the stencil letters in the arrangement that I wanted. It was a longer bible verse so I ran out of some letters and just left room for them to add once I finished the first two lines and freed up some letters. I just took a pencil and lightly traced around all the stencil letters. I then removed the stencil and replaced them to the plastic backing to use again on another project.
I then just took a small paint brush and brown acrylic paint and started filling in the letters that were now sketched out. The paint brush and paint was easy to use but a paint pen would have been easier if I had a brown one. I filled in all the letters once and then went back and painted over them one more time to make sure the background wasn’t showing through the paint.
Once it was dry I took a small piece of sandpaper and lightly rubbed in the direction of my background paint strokes to give the letters the same texture and distressed look as the background.
