Unexpected Christmas Decor Ideas

Each year I try to change up my decor slightly but often trying to do so without buying new stuff. So I’m always trying to brainstorm things I can shop the house for to incorporate in my Christmas decor. As we prepare for this Christmas I thought I’d round up some of my favorite “unexpected” christmas decor items over the last several years and few other great ideas I’ve seen other bloggers share!

Let’s start with unexpected “tree skirt/collars”. Tree collars are everywhere these days but a few years ago they weren’t as easy to come by and not nearly as affordable which always got my wheels turning and resulted in some of my favorite repurposes.

My Favorite: Using this seagrass rug that I had from World Market as a “tree skirt”  HERE>>

One year we used a whiskey barrel planter from Home Depot as a tree collar. We just drilled a hole in the center big enough for the tree pole to sit in.

And for this Home Depot challenge, I turned a shipping box into a tree collar. I just hot glued ribbon and spruced up to use for this Home Depot tree challenge.

I love how Angie used a vintage silver champagne bucket as a tree stand for a little tree so I may have to try that this Christmas!

I also have made some fun “snowglobe” inspired decor pieces over the years using the unlikely, old light fixtures. One was an outdoor lantern I picked up in a trash pile at my neighbors house and then one I picked up at the thrift store.

A few other ideas that I thought were so genius when shopping your house was this adorable DIY Santa sign made out of CEILING FAN BLADES!!! I mean how genius is Toni!

Garland and ribbon can get expensive so I thought Heather was so smart to use scarves in her tree! She shares all the details on her blog HERE>>

I hope these may help you think outside the box and think about what you may already have around the house or in the attic that you could use in your Christmas decor this year!
