Dip Powder Nails At Home

One thing I’ve always loved to get done was to have my nails done. There is just something about having your nails done that makes you feel pretty. I’ve gotten them done in the salon off and on since I was in high school but when we decided to adopt that all stopped to save money and I haven’t gone since with the exception of getting them done for a wedding I was in.

My favorite is the dip powder since it makes your nails strong like acrylic did but without damaging your nails like acrylic. Unfortunately I just don’t have the time to go to the salon and hate spending the money every three weeks. I also had some concerns over how sanitary it is everyone dipping into the same jar. I’ve briefly seen some DIY dip powder kits so I started doing some research around Christmas time and found a brand with great reviews and I’m HOOKED!! It has become my new favorite hobby and perfect if you usually go to a salon and may find them closed during this Coronavirus social distancing time.

I started out buying a four color start kit. It comes with 4 dip colors and all the liquids you need. It cost about $45 for all of that which is what it costs for one application at the salon. Since I started in January my collection has grown and grown because I can’t seem to stop ordering new colors.

It’s really easy to use but I’ve learned some tips along the way to make my nails look that much better and more salon quality! I shared a step by step on the removal and application process in my Instagram stories and it’s all saved to my Instagram highlights if you want to check it out!

Here are some FAQs I’ve gotten asked when sharing on Instagram

How long does it last? I’ve never let them go past two weeks since I do them at home and I’m always anxious to try new colors but most salon “dippers” can go 3 weeks or until they can’t stand the growth anymore.

How long does it take? I would say about 1 hour including the removal of the previous dip. This is my “me” time and I usually pour myself a glass of wine, put on a show and do my nails.

What other tools do you need? You will need a buffing block and nail file for application or you can use an electric nail drill as you get used to doing it and want to speed things up. It’s not necessary but definitely helps! I use THIS ONE and share how I use it on IG!

How do you remove them? I use the hot water/acetone trick currently. I heat up a bowl of hot water and then put 100% acetone in a ziplock bag and then soak my nails in it in the bowl until it comes off. It usually takes about 10 minutes. I share all of this in my IG highlights also!

I show several tips I’ve learned along the way in my stories so if you are interested I would check them out because it has made a huge difference in the quality!

One other thing I love about the dip powder is that they dry almost instantly which makes it great for moms or children. If you have to take a break mid-mani and care for the children which happens everytime I do my nails you don’t have to worry about messing them up! It’s also great for littles that can’t stay still long enough to let nail polish dry! My daughter loves having hers done as much as I do!

Reach out if you have any questions but I just wanted to share since the salons are closed and it may be the perfect time to try dip powder at home!
