Tip for Decorating with Faux Flowers
As much as I enjoy having fresh flowers, I don’t love spending money on them often since they don’t last for more than a couple weeks. Fortunately faux flowers these days are pretty realistic looking and you can usually find them on sale at Hobby Lobby and Michael’s.
Before I really started exploring my interest in home decor, I always bought a bundle of all the same faux flowers to use but never was happy with the outcome. As my collection grew I started using different flowers together and realized how much better they looked when they weren’t all identical. If it is a grouping just two or three flowers then I may use the same but for the vases and vignettes with a large number of flowers I now use different colors and sizes of the same flowers.
Here are a couple examples of how I mix my flowers:
I found this old bucket at an estate sale and thought it’d be great for spring. I filled it with 3 different shades of blue faux hydrageas and some white hydrangeas as well.
I have a blue and white vase that I got last year at a garage sale and filled it with two different blue hydrangeas and some smaller white hydrangeas that helped fill in the gaps.
Next time you’re shopping for fake flowers, try getting a few different ones that work well together and make them look more like the variety you could have picked from your garden.
