DIY Magnolia Wreath

DIY_Magnolia_Wreath

It’s no secret that I LOVE Fixer Upper and everything Joanna does!! She has such an amazing eye for flipping houses and such a fabulous sense of style, not to mention who wouldn’t love their little family!! If you are like me and don’t miss an episode, you will have noticed the beautiful faux magnolia wreath that she uses in several of her homes. It always catches my attention and I’ve had it on my wishlist for A LONG TIME!!!

You can buy the exact ones that she uses on her online shop for $88 here but I’m just too frugal and that is just not in the budget so I’ve decided to try to make one for myself.

Supplies Needed:

  • Foam Wreath Form
  • Magnolia Leaf Stems – I purchased two stems from Hobby Lobby
  • Push Pins (used what I had already or I would have bought some that weren’t white)
  • Hot Glue

Here is how to make one:

This project is super easy so there isn’t many steps to mention. I started out using push pins to start securing the leaves onto the wreath along the front/inside of the wreath just overlaying them on top of each other to cover the push pins. The front of all the leaves are green but the backs vary between lighter green and brown, I sporadically tried to flip some and add some variation of color.

Then I went back and did another layer of leaves on the top/outside of the wreath

Once I had two rings of layered leaves, I used the leaves I had left to attach under those first two layers to give it more depth and also to help cover the wreath form.

Once I had all the leaves added, I went back with a glue gun and secured a few where it was needed. A couple of them wouldn’t stay in place to cover the push pins, so I lightly glued those in place.

Add a hanger, I used a soda can top but whatever you have around the house will work!

So, what do you think? Sure, I think the Magnolia Market wreath looks more realistic but the DIY version is a tenth of the price and you can’t beat that! My total cost was $8.69 (with tax) at Hobby Lobby (with the floral stems on sale and using my coupon for the wreath foam). This wreath took about 30 minutes which isn’t bad at all! It took me longer to write up the blog than it did to make the wreath itself!
