Another DIY Window Frame

Do you remember my first window frame project? It’s still one of my easiest and cheapest projects to date and still one of my favorites!

My mother-in-law loved it as well and immediately let me know that she wanted one!  It had been months since she told me she wanted one and I hadn’t forgotten, I figured it’d be a perfect gift idea and lucky for me her birthday was coming up this past Spring.

As much as I LOVE the old windows I found on the side of the road that day, they are pretty large! That picture is literally life size and I figured as much as she loves us, she probably wouldn’t mind one a little smaller 😉  I picked up a window at a local store that sells them for a reasonable price and got started! I tried to do a better job of photographing the steps for this tutorial since I failed to on my last one but the quality didn’t turn out great so forgive me. I was doing this during March Madness and the overhead light would have totally messed up the games for my husband 😉

Supplies:

  • Window
  • Large Picture Poster – printed at Staples – This one is 24” x 32.5”
  • Scotch Tape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

Steps:

1. Measure out the window and picture to find out how it will fit into the window panes. I used Adobe Photoshop for this step but you could sketch it out by hand to get a good idea.

2. Lay out the poster and place the window on top to position correctly. I designed my poster to fit the window so none of the picture was showing out from the window frame. If you have some overlay, this is where you would mark the edge of the window and where you should cut.

3. Cut out the poster to fit the window size (including the outside frame).

4. Using a pencil, ruler and window pane, sketch the lines for each pane and where you will cut out the frame section.

5. Cut out the sections to fit in each pane.

6. Tape the poster to the window. I taped all the way around each pane to make sure the poster lays flat to the window.

And it really is that easy! One more window frame down and my MIL loved it!  It’s currently hanging in her office and I snapped a picture of it this weekend while we were visiting!
