DIY Wooden Spool Clock
Do you remember the wooden spools I found behind a dumpster? Well this was my first project with them and for this one I used the medium spool.
First off, I broke the spool apart. You just use a ratchet and ratchet the bolts until they loosen up and will slide right out. I took one end of the spool and decided to use the side that was facing in for my clock. The side of the wooden circle facing out had words and stamps on it which would make it more interesting but for this one I just wanted it wooden. I sanded it quickly with my palm sander to smooth it off a bit and it was ready to become a faux clock. The wood was old and weathered which gave it a great look without having to do anything to it, SCORE!
I have a set of 4″ stencils from Michael’s that I used for the numbers. I took a long ruler and marked where the numbers should be and just started tracing the stencils for the numbers.
Once I had all the numbers stenciled on I went back with white acrylic paint and a paint brush and filled in the numbers. It took two coats of paint to get the paint thick enough and bold enough.
Once it was dry I went back with my palm sander and buffed the numbers to give them that worn look!
For now I put it in our bedroom but this would be great over console table or mantel as well.
