Black and White and Green Collected Porch

We have a fairly small front porch and I have always tried to decorate it in the summer but never just loved how it turned out until now! I really think keeping it limited to three colors is what tied it all together for me. I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it so I shopped and house and love how it turned out.

I figured I’d share my thought process and how this patio evolved incase that may help you when you feel unsure how to start!

I first started by stripping the patio down to just the furniture I had out there already (no decor). I had the black milk can table out there in between my rockers and my old sewing machine table on the small brick wall, both items I realized have black bases.

Then I started thinking about what planters I wanted to use on these pieces. I had the white chippy planter already out from using it in between the rockers and thought the white chippy watering can would make a cute planter also. These were both purchased years ago thrifting and at the Country Living Fair. So that’s where the inspiration came from, using what I already had and boom… I decided to run with the black and white theme and adding in plants to bring in the green!

We had to move our faux topiaries to the back porch after installing our Ring Doorbell (which we LOVE) because they were blocking the camera. I already had these planters from a few years ago so I just picked out an assortment of green and white plants/flowers for them.

I did want to try the layered rug look that everyone is doing and found this great black rug at Tuesday Morning that layered perfectly with this Home Sweet Home doormat that I’ve had for a couple years. I have to admit the layered rug look is a trend I’m loving and although I’m not always on board with following trends, this is one you can do for such a small cost commitment that I’m happy to jump on board!

Now for a wreath… I didn’t want to spend a lot but didn’t have anything that was working as well as I’d like. So naturally… I took a trip to Hobby Lobby to search for the perfect thing. I found this faux boxwood wreath that was super simple and affordable since it was 50% off. I knew I had some faux hydrangeas at home that I’ve used for different things in the past so I decided to use that wreath and just spruce it up a little bit. So I just attached some faux hydrangeas, pieces of some faux garland and a few other random things I found in a drawer that wasn’t being used and I think it turned out perfect! I love how the small garland pieces make it look a little “wild” and more organic. It reminds me of these wreaths I keep eyeing from Grandin Road but can’t afford!

And just to add a few final touches, I painted this red lantern I wasn’t using black – since I’ve only used the red at Christmas time and know I can use black year round. The wooden box was a thrift store find and I just like the rustic look with the words printed and put a fern in there to add a little more greenery.

My sister got me these awesome outdoor pillows for my Rockers that really helped bring it all together!

And that’s all the details! I hope you love it and hope you find this helpful as you may get ready to work on your porch! I think I’ll stick with a limited and defined color scheme from now on to just help tie everything together!
