Barn Painting by Yours Truly

Barn-Painting4

I don’t know if it’s me getting old or what but I just cannot sleep in anymore. Even on the weekend I’m typically up by 7 and sometimes even earlier. I try to let my husband sleep in on Saturdays which leaves me 2-3 hours of trying to be quiet and also trying to keep from getting bored. I’ve been wanting to attempt some abstract painting so when I saw some canvases at the thrift store a few weeks ago, I snatched them up. One was just coated with gray (obviously an unfinished project of someones) and one was still unpainted. These larger canvas can be a little pricey so I snatched them up for any future efforts I might get around to.

So a couple weeks ago it was a beautiful and sunny morning and I decided it was the perfect time to give it a try. I took my paint supplies onto the porch and just got started. You should have seen the look my husband gave me when he got up and found me outside painting…he was so confused. The truth is, I used to be pretty good at painting in high school but it’s been over 10 years since I’ve done any serious painting outside of furniture or crafts. The good thing is that with the “abstract” look I wanted, I didn’t have to be perfect or precise…I mostly used a putty knife for the entire painting.  I found a picture of a barn on google and just started painting away until it was as good as I thought it was going to get.

It isn’t perfect and although it may not be that impressive, it was really fun to try painting again. The canvas was thrifted for $3 and I just used paint and supplies I already had. I had this frame in my attic so this was overall a cheap way to get some artwork in my home! I hope to do some more painting soon and maybe get some of my skills from high school back!
