Shop the House Design Challenge – Part 4
I’m back with part 4 of the shop the house challenge and I’m not even going to lie, I am relieved to have made it through four restyles. It’s not quite as easy as I would have imagined and free-time these days seems to be almost non-existent which makes restyling a difficult thing to do.
If you’d like to go back and see Part One here, Part Two here and Part Three here, you can refresh your memory!
The last two restyles have really made me think outside my blue and white loving box and get creative and they’ve actually turned out to be my favorite stylings since we bought this hutch a year ago. I was really loving all the greenery that I used last month and I wasn’t ready to get rid of it just yet so I decided to keep my favorite things and add some pops of yellow to brighten it up for Spring.
I started with some lemon decor pieces that I have had stored for a while and have actually never used. The wreath was a clearance find from Kohls and I used ceramic lemons in a cloche that were clearance buys from Target after last summer. I’m telling you, I am a hoarder of home decor and sometimes it pays off.
Our guest room is torn apart after getting a new bed for our master and moving our old bed to the guest room. I took the chippy old baluster and DIY forsythia wreath that had been hanging above the guest bed and moved it onto a shelf to bring in some more texture and yellow!
I don’t have much yellow decor so I had to get a little creative. I made a lemon topiary by attaching some lemons I had thrifted to a green topiary that was from my husband’s from house…I’m going to guess it was my MIL’s hand-me-down since I don’t see my husband buying a topiary 🙂
That still left me with one big hole and I had to start getting creative. I started brainstorming and remembered that I had an old window in the attic and I could just print out some free botanical prints to use in the panes. I used the free botanical prints from this blog and printed out a few that included yellow and a few that didn’t. This was the perfect touch because it was using things I already had around the house and was something I’ve never done before!
I have to admit that as challenging as restyling this hutch every month, it really stretched my creativity but that is when I see myself improve the most. Here is a better look at both sides of the hutch.
