DIY Initial Frame

I’ve been wanting to post this since Thanksgiving but one was a gift for my mom…although I’m not sure if she reads my blog. I didn’t want to take any chances. Now that Christmas is over I am free to post!

Every time I am strolling through Hobby Lobby I see those bronze letters on the outside of the basket aisle. They have large ones and smaller ones and they always catch my eye.

This particular trip I decided I was going to find something to do with them. They were 50% off so I grabbed the smaller “H” and kept shopping. I ran across the frames that were also 50% off – don’t you LOVE Hobby Lobby?!? I love that I can usually always get my supplies 50% off or at least 40% off with a coupon!

Anyways – that is when I had an idea. These would make such a cute initial frame to sit on a table or put on a wall with a collage. I grabbed 5×7 frames that matched the bronze letter. I ran it by my Mother-in-Law who was with me at the time. Sometimes I need a sanity check to make sure this great idea I have, is actually a great idea in reality. Am I the only one? She loved the idea too so we went back to the letters and started grabbing different letters for gifts.

We got different colored letters (gold or bronze) and chose different frames for each one. Cindy (the MIL) had burlap left over from our rehearsal dinner and I keep burlap at my house so we figured that would be perfect to put behind the frame.

Here is how we made them:

Supplies Needed:

  • 5×7 Frame
  • Small initial
  • Burlap (scrapbook paper or any fabric would work)
  • Glue ( I used super glue, the MIL used hot glue)

Only 3 Simple Steps:

1. Cut Burlap to size of frame  – in my case 5×7
2. Place Burlap into frame like you would a picture and close up

3. Glue Initial on top of the glass where desired and let dry

It doesn’t get much easier than that! I used the same frame for mine and my moms and I love how different they turned out by using different colored burlap and different colored letters. She has red and gold in her bedroom so I thought it was perfect! This was an easy and reasonably priced project and I think it is a great gift! I think most people would have a table, wall or dresser that these would look great on!

This is another great idea of how to use the larger initials in a similar way!
